Leadership

My business Partner James forwarded this to me today – some great advice on leadership and worth passing along:

  • The most important thing a leader has to do is absolutely search, treasure and nourish the voice and dignity of every person in the organization.
  • When we, as leaders, can rid ourselves of the need to be right, we can live up to Jack Welch’s words. Challenge yourself to go through a day without making someone a loser. It’s a lot harder than you might think. However, it is well worth the effort. No one wants to be proven wrong, even if they are wrong. Enlightened leaders know the importance of creating win/win situations and continually work to accomplish that objective.
  • Slow down to show that you care. We get so wrapped up in the day-to-day issues and/or problems that we lose sight of our role as leaders, that is to nurture and encourage our people. The next time you feel frustrated, hurried and/or otherwise overwhelmed – slow down. Spend the quality time talking about the right issues with your people, they will respond better and know you care.
  • Be a lighthouse, not a weather vane.” How do you react in difficult situations? So the next time the difficulties arise, remember your role. Don’t just react. Provide a vision of the preferred outcome and help your people understand how to get through the problem.
